What can I study?
All students wishing to enroll at KMMC must have a first study instrument. The available study areas vary between the Foundation and Preparatory programs. Please see our Programs section of our website for details.
Do I need my own instrument?
Yes. Students are required to have their own instrument upon starting the program, unless, of course, you plan to have piano as your first study instrument.
What previous experience is required to apply? (entry requirements)
All students must have proficiency in the English Language.
For the Preparatory Program, students must have reached a minimum age of 5 years and must have a genuine interest in music.
For the Foundation Program, students must have reached a minimum age of 18 years. It is also recommended that students reach a proficiency of Associated Board of the Royal School of Music [ABRSM] Grade 3 or equivalent in instrumental ability and theoretical knowledge before applying. However, this is not a requirement from admission. Please see our Admissions page for additional information.
How do I apply and schedule an audition?
If you are interested in applying and setting up an audition, please follow the links on our Admissions page. All applicants must submit an application and pay the application/prospectus fee. Once your enquiry has been received, you will be contacted with additional information. Prospective students may need to complete an audition and interview.
What is the cost of the Prospectus or to apply to KMMC?
In order to apply for Admission at KMMC, all candidates must pay an application fee and will receive a copy of the prospectus. The cost is Rs.1,100, and must be paid as a Demand Draft favoring KM Music Conservatory, payable in Chennai. It is also possible to purchase the prospectus on our website. Do I need to take a test of English proficiency?
KMMC does not require its applicants to take a specific test of English proficiency, However, the majority of our courses are taught in English. It is recommended that students are proficient and depending on the program, students may have to demonstrate a level of proficiency for admission.
When do courses start?
Different Programs begin at different points in the year. Generally our Foundation Program begins in July of every year and Preparatory Programs have multiple enrollment dates throughout the year. Please see the Programs section of our website for more information.
Where are the auditions held?
All Auditions will be held at the KM Music Conservatory in Chennai. For international students, mailed in auditions, consisting of unedited DVD, will be accepted. Please see our Admissions page for details on audition requirements.
Do you offer summer programs?
In the 2 past years, KM has had the opportunity to offer Piano and Voice specialty programs for a 6-week duration during the summer months. Stay updated on our website for potential Summer Programs for 2011.
