Job title: Faculty for Violin

Reporting to: Outreach Programme Head / Executive Director

Closing date: Until post filled

Contract: Fixed-term 1-Year contract, starting July 2015 (or as soon as possible following this, with possibility of extension)

A vacancy exists for a full-time teacher of Violin, to work as part of our outreach programmes as well as to teach across a range of programmes from Preparatory (beginners) to Diploma (undergraduate) level.

KM Music Conservatory was founded in 2008 by A.R. Rahman, the Indian film composer known worldwide for the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire score, amongst other work. It is rapidly growing and already delivers a wide variety of full-time and part-time courses, including the Foundation and Diploma programmes which are validated by Middlesex University, UK. Students study instrumental and/or vocal performance as part of these courses, at undergraduate level.

The brainchild of A.R. Rahman, the Sunshine Orchestra project has identified, selected and trained more than 60 students from economically underserved sections of the society, otherwise having no access to music instruments, training or guidance. These students have undergone rigorous training on western classical music from various legends in this field. Today, these young musicians are on their way to becoming experts in the field of orchestral performance, with some of them already performing with various professional ensembles. The project aims to train more than 200 such students in the next two years.

All teaching is delivered in English language. We are housed in a newly re-engineered, purpose built and air-conditioned facility in Arumbakkam, at the heart of the cosmopolitan South Indian city of Chennai.

The aim of this role is to operate effectively as part of an international team of academic, technical and administrative colleagues, facilitating the highest quality of learning through teaching, administrative assistance and appropriate advice, as and when the situation demands.
