Musical Theatre

The first musical theatre training program of its kind in India, KMMC’s one year Certificate in Musical Theatre is an opportunity for students to delve deep into the heart, history, traditions, and performance practices involved in becoming a Broadway live “triple threat” (sing, act, dance) performer.

The Certificate in Musical Theatre will give students first-hand insight and experiences in working collaboratively to bring a musical theatre production to life. Students may also choose to be involved in backstage and technical aspects such as stage management, props, costumes, and sound/lighting design. The program will culminate with a large musical production featuring all participants in various departments.

This program is open to all students enrolled at KMMC with specific courses offered as electives in Foundation and Diploma. It can also be taken as a standalone program for those students who are new to the conservatory and are interested in taking strictly musical theatrerelated topics.

Various Broadway and international guest teachers will contribute to course teachings and mentorships throughout the year, giving students the opportunity to engage with working professionals in the field and build their professional network.

• Best suited for age 16 upwards with any basis or interest in pursuing a career in music

Enrolment criteria

• Ages: 16+
• Application fee
• Completed application
• Grade 10 pass or equivalent in English
• Fee: Rs.4,00,000/- + GST

Dance

• 1.5 hour weekly introduction to ballet class
• 1.5 hour weekly introduction to jazz class
• 1.5 hour weekly introduction to tap class

This module is designed to introduce students to the basics of theatre dance while building a strong physical practice for all onstage work. Various styles of choreography will be taught and showcased on stage during performance opportunities.

Acting

• 2 hour weekly scenes rehearsal

Singing

• 2 hour weekly Ensemble/Chamber
• 1 x 45 min weekly private vocal coaching*

2 hour weekly group singing session

Weekly 45 minute individual voice classes specifically developing singing for musical theatre. Exploring musical theatre repertoire and vocal techniques.

*Available to Certificate in Musical Theatre students only.

Movement, Voice + Text for Actors

• 1 hour weekly class

Weekly 1 hour session exploring acting skills through the lens of theatre games, voice and movement exercises, improvisation and assigned texts/readings. Building the necessary skills for confidence in presentation on stage.

Stage Management Skills

• 1 x 1.5 hour weekly class
• Weekly 1.5 hour masterclass introducing various skills necessary for reaching stage and successfully performing. Topics include safety on stage, rehearsal techniques, working with technologies and stage management.

Directing Skills

• 1 x 1.5 hour weekly class

Weekly 1.5 hour sessions or individual mentoring introducing the knowledge and skills for directing shows. Working on developing rehearsal leading techniques, how to plan individual scenes within larger works and aiding in the creation of the finalperformances.
